President-elect Barack Obama to Americans: Shop 'til you drop...almost. "What we don't want to do is get caught up in a spiral where people pull back from the economy, businesses then pull back, jobs are reduced and we get into a downward spiral," Obama said Wednesday, his third straight day of giving the nation an economic pep talk. "People should understand that help is on the way," the soon-to-be-President reassured. "As they think about this Thanksgiving shopping weekend and as they think about the Christmas season that's coming up, I hope that everybody understands that we are going to get through these difficult times." Obama said his family would be breaking out the greenbacks on Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year, to give the economy a boost. "We are gonna do some Christmas shopping," he said. His daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, have sent their wish list to Santa, he said, "but we may do some extra shopping...

Accompanied by marching bands, floats, and falloons (a term that the Macy’s Parade Studio coined for a float with a balloon character on it) Delta will proudly fly through the streets of New York City tomorrow as the official airline sponsor of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade ! Tune in to see us on the Statue of Liberty float during NBC’s telecast around 11:20 a.m. For our friends in New York City, the parade will start on 77th St and proceed down Central Park West to Columbus Circle, then down Broadway to Macy’s at 34th St, finishing on 7th Ave ( see map here ). Today is Veterans Day To Honor America's troops. Four score and 10 years ago, the guns of World War I fell silent in Europe. From that event, the commemoration of Veterans Day in the United States evolved. Today, in the midst of two active and deadly wars in Asia, Americans pause to recognize those who have served the nation in the military. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, a single veteran of World War I survives today. He is joined by about 2.3 million veterans of World War II and about the same number of vets from the Korean War. Some 7.1 million veterans of the Vietnam War survive, as do about 2.3 million from the first Gulf War. In sum, there are about 23.4 million veterans still with us who have served the nation in war or peace. The latest Americans to join their numbers are men and women who have fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. To date, there have been about a million deployments. Some 4,180 Americans have been killed in action in Iraq, and another 617 have...

Salute those unforgettable heroes in Veterans Day by these Veterans Day Poems . Veterans Day By Taylor Weinman Representing the red white and blue The colors of our flag stand out proud and true. The white stars on blue background with red and white stripes Remind me of these veterans, who all risked their lives. Just so the people of the U.S. could all live in peace and be free These are the heroes that represent you and me. They stood up strongly, untied as one, And kept up the fighting until they were done. And although some have fallen, and lost their lives in war, We pray for each one of them. And now that their souls live on forever more, Above in God's hands. They watch over our nation, And give us strength to triumph over others with strong anticipation. So every year, when this day comes by, Think of all the veterans that while fighting, had to die. And remember that they were people With fire and passion embedded inside. They die for this country, So remember and honor t...
